OUR BIOTECH INNOVATION

Solid-State Carbon

Our patented Solid-State Carbon (SSC) biotech captures and solidifies atmospheric carbon into any shape through a process resembling rapid biological growth.

Unique Properties of the Solid-State Carbon

    • Cost-Effective uses carbon pollution abundant in the atmosphere as a low-cost material for growing urban structures
    • Rapid Growth – one storey SSC house could be grown in less than 48 hours from kilotons of atmospheric carbon emissions, almost infinite scalability
    • Generates Additional Revenue – structures built with the SSC generate carbon credits, raise impact scores and UN SDG goals affirmation, while the SSC public art installations increase real-estate values

      • Regenerative Decarbonization – structures built with SSC continue to capture carbon post-completion, one SSC public art installation could sequester kilotons of carbon emissions annually
      • Carbon Capture from Oceans – Adaptable for capturing carbon from oceans, mitigating ocean acidification. Usable to grow artificial coral reefs and build seawalls to protect cities from rising sea levels.
      • Food Waste Mitigation – Adaptable to utilize food and agricultural waste as a source of minerals, enhancing SSC production and reducing waste.

      The SSC Prototype

      Our first prototype:

      • Grew in 30 minutes from atmospheric carbon into a stone-like, water and fireproof calcium carbonate derivative
      • Engineered intentionally into a highly curved shape to display versatile material possibilities, moving away from block-shaped construction

      • Paves the way towards growing buildings and urban structures instead of constructing them

Growing Two Types of Urban Structures from Carbon Pollution

      Public Art Installations

Unlike the SSC Public Art Installations, current carbon capture and storage solutions are often temporary, expensive, and environmentally invasive and can’t easily be deployed within urban environments. Additionally, the SSC artworks beautify and heathify urban spaces.

      Buildings and Housing

Unlike the SSC Housing that is grown from carbon pollution, most urban carbon emissions come from construction, accounting for 39% of all global CO2 emissions. Only 0.1% of global carbon emissions are being sequestered by current carbon capture technologies, lacking low-cost, efficient and sustainable carbon storage options – like SSC carbon storage as buildings.

The SSC Art Installations - Proof of Concept

We have successfully developed a 9-feet carbon-capturing public art installation in collaboration with the City of Toronto and Nuit Blanche TO art festival. The prototype sculpture was publicly displayed at Humber galleries in Etobicoke in Sept 2022.

The sculpture has successfully sequestered 250 grams of carbon emissions during one exhibition night, while producing oxygen for the spectators.

Additionally, four more similar SSC sculptures were developed and exhibited worldwide.
